Joshua Scott Chasez (born August 8, 1976), better known as JC Chasez, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and occasional actor, best known as one of the lead vocalists in the pop group ‘N Sync. In 2004, Chasez released a solo album, Schizophrenic, and has gone on to write and produce for music acts such as Girls Aloud, Basement Jaxx, and the Backstreet Boys.

Biography

Early Life

Chasez was adopted and raised by Roy and Karen Chasez.His biological mother, who was homeless, entrusted Chasez’s care in her former foster parents Roy and Karen when Chasez turned five, knowing that they would be able to provide him with an education and a stable family life.Chasez has said that he does not know who his biological father is, and has no plans to search for him.

After being adopted, Chasez was raised in Bowie, Maryland as a Mennonite.He has one brother and one sister.Chasez attended the former Belair Junior High School and then Bowie High School. His mother read an article in the Washington Post announcing auditions for Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club, and encouraged Chasez to try out. Chasez was soon cast as a performer in the third season and stayed until the show’s cancellation in 1994. It was during his time as a Mouseketeer that Chasez befriended future bandmate Justin Timberlake, along with other future entertainers such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling, and Tony Lucca.

‘N Sync

In 1995, Chasez joined Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and later, Lance Bass, in an Orlando music group named ‘N Sync. Chasez has written and produced many of ‘N Sync’s songs, such as “No Strings Attached”, “Bringin’ Da Noise”, “Digital Get Down”, and “Space Cowboy” for ‘N Sync’s multiplatinum record-breaking second album, “No Strings Attached.” He also co-wrote the song “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” for ‘N Sync’s Christmas album, “Home for Christmas”, and “The Game Is Over,” “Selfish,” and many others on ‘N Sync’s third album Celebrity, as well as writing and producing for other artists such as Girls Aloud, Wild Orchid, and a track featured on Euge Groove’s self-titled album.

Solo career

After recording the single “Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love)” for the soundtrack of the Drumline motion picture, released in December 2002, Chasez decided to record a solo album.

His debut solo album, Schizophrenic, was released on February 24, 2004. It features the singles “Some Girls (Dance with Women)” “All Day Long I Dream About Sex” and “Build My World”.

Chasez’s second album, Kate, which was originally scheduled to be released in early 2007, features work with such producers as Dallas Austin, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Billy Steinberg. However, Chasez parted ways with Jive Records in September 2007.He is currently finishing up his second solo album and hopes to release it in 2008. Chasez has stated that Justin Timberlake has “worked on a few songs” for him on this album.

Other work

Chasez has made guest appearances on CBS’s The Ghost Whisperer and NBC’s Las Vegas. He also had a cameo in Moby’s music video for We Are All Made Of Stars.

Chasez is a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

He will have a role as a bar owner in Killer Movie, set to be released summer 2008.

Chasez collaborated with Basement Jaxx on “Plug It In”, a song off their 2003 album Kish Kash. They returned the favor by producing the track “Shake It” for Schizophrenic. Chasez has collaborated with DJ/composer BT on BT’s 2003 album Emotional Technology, where he provided backup vocals on the tracks “Somnambulist” and “The Force of Gravity”. It was his second time working with Transeau, as he produced the ‘N Sync hit “Pop”.

Chasez contributes backing vocals on two songs he co-wrote with Eric Bazilian (of The Hooters) and Jonatha Brooke on Brooke’s 2007 album Careful What You Wish For.

Chasez was named one of People Magazine’s Hottest Bachelors in June 2006.

In a recent interview Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter reported that JC Chasez has written an uptempo song “Treat Me Right” with AJ McLean for the Backstreet Boys new album Unbreakable.

In the episode of The Simpsons, New Kids on the Blecch, he and the rest of ‘N Sync guest star as themselves. At the end, the rest of the band signs him up for the Navy without cosulting him. He is then dragged off by two soldiers, screaming.

Vocal ability

After collaborating with Chasez, folk singer Jonatha Brooke said, “He’s got a four-octave range, he can sing anything. It’s like being in a candy store, because he can sing anything.”
